The FCA have launched a Discussion Paper on Sustainability Disclosure Requirements and investment labels.

The FCA anticipate 2 layers of disclosure: a concise and accessible consumer-facing layer; and more detailed underlying disclosures aimed primarily at institutional investors. Accompanying product labels will then help retail investors navigate the increasingly complex ESG investment landscape.

The input the FCA receive to the Discussion Paper (DP) will inform the development of policy proposals for consultation in Q2 2022. This forms part of the Sustainability Disclosure Requirements (SDR) set out in the Government’s Greening Finance: A Roadmap to Sustainable Investing, published in October 2021.

The DP seeks feedback on potential approaches to the design of:

  • sustainable investment labels
  • consumer-facing disclosures for investment products
  • client- and consumer-facing entity- and product-level disclosures by asset managers and FCA-regulated asset owners

The FCA are seeking comments on the DP by Friday 7 January 2022.
